3 Popular Types of Window Shades

Last updated 6 years ago

Looking to glam up your rooms with window shades?  With a variety of colors and materials, window shades are both functional and beautiful.  There are three basic types of window shades you can install, each with their own appealing positives.

  1. Top down bottom up:  Top down bottom up shades are the solution to city living.  Your privacy is limited in a city where neighbors can stare into your living room.  Rolling down your shades to get some alone time might be necessary, but it also chokes out a lot of light.  With top down bottom up shades you can adjust how much of the window your shades are blocking.  Have tall windows?  Let the top half stay open to allow light in, but darken the lower half to block out voyeurs.
  2. Cordless: Cordless cellular shades give your room a chic look while offering great insulation.  They can come in a variety of colors and styles to fit with your established décor.  Those made of high quality polyester can ably filter your light or create a blackout effect.  A cordless shade will roll easily up or down the window to let in, or keep out, light.
  3. Blackout:  Are you a light sleeper who wakes up when the sunlight just begins to peek into the sky?  It can be really hard to sleep if light keeps you up, either from the sun, moon, or street.  Blackout shades can come in multiple styles and will keep the sun out of your room.  Plus, they can be highly energy efficient, by ensuring that light – and therefore heat – is being kept out of your house.
